Court Clears Way For Crips Co-Founder's Execution  SAN FRANCISCO -- A federal appeals court on Wednesday said Stanley "Tookie" Williams, a founder of the notorious Crips street gang who has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, can be executed for killing four people in 1979. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals refused to grant Williams another hearing based on his argument that prosecutors violated his rights when they dismissed all potential black jurors from hearing the case. Agreement from a majority of the 24 active judges is required to grant a rehearing. - (forum) |
Police Arrest Man Wanted In Attack On Neighbor Baltimore County police have arrested a Windsor Mill man who they said attacked his neighbor with a knife last week. Officers found Lamont Better, 24, hiding under a bed Tuesday in an apartment on

Adopted son of white professor bashed to death with baseball bat sentenced to life in prison  Tavares Williams, 21, was found guilty Tuesday in the beating death of his guardian, UF adjunct professor Barbara Roth, 51, three years ago. Roth's body was found in her apartment in January 2002. Williams, then 18, at first denied involvement in the slaying, but later confessed to hitting Roth with a baseball bat. Roth had first met Williams while she was a social worker in central Florida. She eventually adopted him a few years before the slaying, associates said. Roberto Ramirez Suspect in murder of pretty young White woman may have fled to Mexico   Police issued an arrest warrant for the killer of 21-year-old Melissa Dorner. The search is now on for Roberto Ramirez, 24, who lived in the same building as Dorner in the Edgewater neighborhood. Ramirez is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. The suspect has not been seen since the night of the murder. Cop Arrested On DUI Charge A Metro homicide detective was charged with DUI after being arrested in downtown Louisville Monday night. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department arrested Timothy Hightower III, 50,
Monday night in downtown Louisville.
Hightower's blood-alcohol level was 0.26 percent, more than three times the legal limit. A Metro police spokesman said Hightower has been with the department for more

Norfolk Police Arrest Black Male Suspected of Raping Young Girl Norfolk police have a man in custody they say may have raped a young girl. Donnie Ray Tucker, 48, turned himself in at police headquarters Tuesday morning. Police aren't saying where she was attacked, but say it happened around 4:00am Sunday morning. Her boyfriend ("with friends like these..."), Kendrick Hamilton, is now facing the most severe charge, capital murder. Prosecutors claim Hamilton intentionally set Stoutamire on fire inside her apartment."She was a good person. Canton man to serve 25 years in rape of Ridgeland jogger The woman was jogging and listening to headphones when approached by a man with a 6-inch knife who pulled her into the woods and raped her. Antonio Goldman charged with the rape of a Ridgeland woman will spend the next 35 years in prison as part of a plea bargain made with prosecutors. He pleaded guilty this morning to charges of forced sexual intercourse, kidnapping and robbery of a Ridgeland jogger on Aug. 10, 2004. Former Crematory Operator Faces Families LaFAYETTE, Ga. -- Former crematory operator Ray Brent Marsh sat in court Monday and listened one by one to the relatives of some of the 334 people whose bodies he left to decay on his property. "The only question I have for you is 'Why did you do this?' There has to be a reason," Randall Jensen, of Boaz, Ala., asked Marsh in the courtroom. Jensen's father was supposed to have been cremated by Marsh. Instead of performing cremations, Marsh, former operator of the Tri-State Crematory, left bodies to decay around the property. Birth Control News: Pregnant High School Student Beaten To Death A pregnant 17-year-old high school student was beaten to death with a baseball bat in Prince William County, Va., police said. Cheri Washington (and her 'fetus') died after being beaten, she was a student at Hylton High School. Police said Carlos Diangilo Williams is in their custody. They said he had a "relationship" with Washington. The two had an argument that escalated into a beating. Williams used a bat and his hands and feet to beat Washington. She managed to flee and a neighbor then saw her and drove her home, where her mother called for an ambulance. - (guru2000) |
Suspect in sex attacks on two young girls is arrested Indianapolis police arrested a man in connection with the sexual assault of two young girls, ending an intense weekend search that began after the children were assaulted just 16 hours apart. Richard Fox, 39, was arrested about 9:15 a.m. at his home, where police found him hiding in a closet. When confronted with that information, police said, Fox confessed to sexually assaulting the 12-year-old girl Thursday and speaking with the 11-year-old girl Friday.The 12-year-old girl was abducted at knifepoint, dragged through an alley to an abandoned house in the 3500 block of East 10th Street and raped. - (Brewski) |

14-year-old black youth to be tried as adult for murdering two people - Consultant said defendant's age, race were factors Ten women and two men will hear the double murder case pending against now 15-year-old David Harris when his trial begins Monday. He is accused of killing David Hutchinson, 20, and George Vance, 27, four days apart last May in Over-the-Rhine. First Witnesses In Camden Murder Trial Discuss Possible Motive   Ga. -- Friends of a 23-year-old Jenieka Murphy found murdered in 2001 told a Camden County jury that the victim had stolen drugs from the two men accused of killing her. She had taken cocaine and marijuana from Gregory Walker Jr., who is on trial for Murphy's murder, and a co-defendant, Shedrick Tate. A former co-worker testified that she witnessed a confrontation about the theft on June 8, 2001, the day before her body was found dead on Refuge Road. Prosecutors said Murphy was shot seven times in the head. Walker and Tate were arrested in Atlanta after the killing. - (Tyrone N. Butts)

LOUIS (AP) -- Calling the sexual attack "the most heinous I have seen," a 12-year judge Friday sentenced a former St. Louis collegiate football player Bobby Collins Jr. to more than five centuries behind bars in a 2002 home invasion and rape."Heinous crimes deserve harsh punishment," said Judge Margaret Neill. Collins broke into the home of a St. Louis woman between 4 and 5 a.m. then held her at gunpoint and threatened to kill her. Rafael Yates and his roommate Devon Skinner raped a 15-year-old runaway girl  Albany police arrested an Orange Street man for raping a minor. Police said Rafael Yates and his roommate Devon Skinner had sex with a 15-year-old runaway girl in November. Investigators said the incident took place while the girl was staying at Yates former Myrtle Avenue apartment. She reported the incident when she returned home the next day. Yates turned himself in to police Friday and the charges against him include rape and endangering the welfare of a child. Skinner has already been charged with rape. Both are being held in Albany County Jail. - (forum)
