Inmate gets free room and board for life for (the rape and) murder of 19-year-old Heather Teegarden A lifetime in prison for Verner will not give the family closure, said her father, Alvin Teegarden."If the punishment was left in my hands, I would have compunction to administer it," he said looking at Verner. "The true punishment will befall you behind bars. May God have mercy on you, because I can't." A judge sentenced an Illinois convict to life in prison without parole after he pleaded guilty to fatally strangling Heather Teegarden six years ago in a case that was unsolved until a search of prisoners' DNA samples linked him to the crime. Two Arrested on Terrorism Charges U.S. marshals have arrested two people in what is being described as the first case of terrorist charges filed in Mississippi. It is a case of two Afro-Americans allegedly willing to provide false identification to members of a foreign and dangerous terrorist organization in exchange for money and drugs. Lamont Ranson and Cedric Carpenter made their initial appearance in U.S. District Court after being arrested. Ranson faces three counts: conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists; conspiracy to defraud the united states and attempt to provide material support to terrorists. Carpenter faces those same charges plus possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; conspiracy to possess a controlled substance with intent to distribute and criminal forfeiture. - (Tyrone N. Black Man Arrested in Murder of White Grocery Store Owner  The Sheriff's Department has made an arrest in the murder of well-known Gadsden store owner. Deputies say Tommy Taylor shot and killed Fred Hill on January 31st as he opened his Bluff Road grocery store. nvestigators say Taylor had previously worked for Hill and knew his hours and his movements well enough to plan the crime. Through their investigation they also learned Taylor owned a handgun and had disappeared shortly after the murder. That, coupled with forensic evidence and Taylor's own incriminating statements led to his arrest Wednesday morning in Lee County. - (Tyrone N. Butts) |
Victims Recovering After Northrop Grumman Shooting PASCAGOULA, Miss. -- A disgruntled employee opened fire Monday at the Northrop Grumman Ships Systems shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., critically wounding two co-workers. A suspect is in custody. Police Lt. Paul Leonard identified the alleged shooter as Alexander Lett, 41, of Moss Point, a 20-year employee of the large complex that builds ships for the Navy and the Coast Guard. Lett was being held at the Pascagoula Municipal Jail on two counts of aggravated assault. Authorities identified the two wounded employees as Ben Gaffney and Bubba Eddins, both believed to hold management positions at the shipyard. - (Gman)

Drane skips court, sentenced to 85 years for rape, murder Convicted murderer Ronnie Dontell Drane received the maximum 85-year sentence for the rape and strangulation of 25-year-old Tamarra Taylor. The judge sentenced Drane to 65 years in prison for murder and murder in the perpetration of a rape, and an additional 20 years for the rape charge. Taylor’s sister, X-Ann Martin, spoke on behalf of the family, which included six children. Their mother was killed when Taylor was 7 years old, the same age as Taylor’s own daughter when Drane killed her, Martin said. Prosecutors also presented cell phone records registered to Drane’s girlfriend, "exotic dancer" Tiffany Copeland who was found was found stuffed in a suitcase. |

3 Md. Prison Guards Fired in White Inmate Death  Md. -- The state fired three guards Wednesday in connection with the strangulation of an inmate who had been seated on a prison bus near a murderer who had told a judge a day earlier that he would likely kill again. Philip E. Parker Jr. was killed by one or more inmates aboard a bus carrying 35 prisoners in handcuffs and leg irons. Prison officials have not named any suspects, but investigators have focused on Kevin G. Johns Jr., 22, a twice-convicted murderer. - (Brewski) |

White school dean gunned down by two black youths   Baltimore County police arrested two men in connection with the shooting death of a private boys school dean Friday night. Police said John Edward Kennedy, 18, of Essex, and Javon Clark, 18, of Middle River, were arrested Sunday evening. They were charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of William Bassett. Bassett, 58, was shot and killed near the Nordstrom's entrance at the Towson Town Center at around 8 p.m. Friday a short distance from his car. Police Search For Man Accused Of Raping Child - 12-Year-Old Victim Hid Pregnancy From Mother ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- A mother is outraged about a crime committed against her young daughter. The 12-year-old was raped but didn’t tell her mother right away. She wouldn't tell me and I kept asking her because I noticed her stomach getting big," said Tracey. "When she came out positive for being pregnant, I cried. And I was angry too, real angry," said Tracey. That's when the girl told her mother, and later Atlantic City Police, that a friend had taken her to the home of Korey Johnson. Black youth gets 27 years for murder   The youngest person ever convicted of murder in Hamilton County will spend the next 27 years behind bars. On Tuesday morning a judge sentenced David Harris for robbing and shooting David Hutchinson to death in Over-The-Rhine in May 2004. Buck Naked Man Allegedly Steals Police Cruiser - Suspect Allegedly Bit Two People "It was really, really weird to see a man, as cold as it was (and) snowing, running around buck naked," said Theodore Griffin. Griffin, 64, said that he was driving about 1:40 Monday morning when Carlton Taylor jumped in front of his car. "He grabs his hand and pushes my window down, and I take off dragging this guy down the street about three-quarters of a block," Griffin said. Taylor managed to open the car door and pull him out of his car. Andre Thomas charged with three counts of murder, but this trial is only for the murder of 13 month-old Leah  The courthouse was filled with family and friends of both the defendant Andre Lee Thomas and murder victim Laura Boren Thomas, and her two children four year-old Andre Boren and 13 month-old Leah Hughes. Andre Thomas is charged with three counts of capital murder, but this trial is only for the murder of Leah. The infant was murdered and had her heart ripped from her tiny chest. Robert Coleman sentenced to death for shooting death of retired minister Robert Coleman was convicted of first-degree murder in the killing of Julian Brandon, 70, in 2003. Brandon was killed during a home invasion and robbery that also left his wife shot and critically wounded. Coleman and his (white) girlfriend, Brandy Holmes, who both lived in a nearby mobile home with Holmes' mother, quickly became suspects after sheriff's investigators got a tip that Holmes had bragged about the murder. Illegal deaf-mute migrant from El Salvador raped, sodomized and murdered 16-year-old Brittany Binger  Officials have made an arrest in the murder of 16-year old Britney Binger. It was January 3rd when authorities say they received an anonymous call around 5:20am alerting them to the body in the mobile home park. Police say Binger was so badly beaten they sent dental records to Richmond to help with her identification. Officials say a positive DNA test result led them to 34-year old Oswaldo Elias Martinez. Martinez was arrested Thursday afternoon. He is charged with capitol murder, rape and sodomy. Martinez, from El Salvador, does not speak English and is hearing impaired. - (Brewski) |

A Kansas City black was accused Thursday of trolling the Internet, trying to lure young girls for sex. Prosecutors alleged Devan H. Smith, 28, had sex with five underage girls. One of them got pregnant and delivered a baby boy. He faced seven counts of statutory rape and one count of sexual misconduct but when Surae Chinn asked him if he raped the girls, he said, "I didn't do it." Authorities arrested him Thursday morning. He was allegedly hiding under a bed. Police allegedly found phone numbers and e-mail addresses for hundreds of girls -

A man suspected of raping and robbing of a female bus passenger in Stockton last Tuesday has surrendered to police. 
An 18-count indictment filed yesterday accuses an illegal immigrant of the brutal Valentine's Day rape of a Westerleigh woman for whom he had done some household cleaning work. Miguel Ortiz, 25, also is charged with terrorizing the woman with a kitchen knife and threatening to kill her pre-teen daughter, who was not home. If convicted at trial, the Mexican citizen could face up to 25 years behind bars on each of eight felony counts of rape, burglary and other sex offenses. The sentences could run consecutively. He also potentially faces deportation. -
